Nashville Tree Foundation collected information on more than 500 trees in its Big Old Tree Contest started in 1988.
A&A sorted their extensive data into categories, designed the book, and handled the short-run printing.
The Foundation uses the books as bonus gifts and fundraising efforts. BUY
We can take your manuscript in any form: on paper, on disk, on tape, or by email. Non-electronic copy requires extra charges.
A&A can provide three levels of services to get your manuscript ready for publication:
1. Proofreading/light editing. We correct typographical and grammatical errors and make sure the style is consistent. We may make slight changes in your wording to make it clearer or more concise.
2. Heavy editing. In addition to light editing, A&A will reorganize your text. This may involve rearranging blocks of copy, identifying passages that do not make sense, and rephrasing passages to make them more fluent.
3. Rewriting involves major changes, holding true to the concept of your manuscript, but with significant revisions in the way it is written. Some clients, when faced with rewriting, choose to prepare a new draft themselves, based on our input.
4. Ghost writing. A&A interviews you and writes a draft of the book, based on those interviews. This, naturally, is the most costly and time-consuming of the preparation options.
A&A takes your edited manuscript and designs a few sample pages. The page size, margins, typefaces, type size, headers, and chapter openings are set at this stage. When you approve the page design, we can provide an accurate estimate of the number of pages.
You will always have an opportunity, after all the text pages have been designed, to proofread the final version before the book goes to a printer.
Cover design is critical if you plan to sell your book through bookstores. You rely on the front cover to compel potential buyers to pick up your book and look at it.
We can create the cover based on your concept or develop our own, using illustrations, images, and type treatments.
The back cover may feature testimonials (about the author or the content), excerpts from the text, photograph/biography of the author, and practical items like a barcode and ISBN number that A&A can acquire for you. Cover design also includes the book’s spine and flaps.
Your book can be bound either as softcover (paperback) or hardcover (hardback). Hardcover is more expensive, but also more durable and perceived as more valuable. If you choose hardcover, the cover design will be printed on a paper dust-jacket; the book itself will have just the title and author imprinted, usually in foil stamp.
A&A provides the book printer with a trouble-free disk, formatted to the printer’s specifications. This avoids unforeseen charges from the printer. We check proofs before printing to ensure that everything has output correctly and is positioned properly. We monitor production schedules to give you an accurate estimate of when to expect delivery.
A&A works with printers all over the world. Whether you want a hundred copies or a hundred thousand, we have the right printer for the job.
Three factors determine the cost of book printing: the size of the book, the number of pages, and the number of copies printed. As these three factors increase, the cost increases.
If you plan to sell your book, you’ll need to consider the cost per copy for printing, in order to determine the cover price of each book. Printing more copies at one time brings down the cost per copy.
Books take a long time to create and produce. Once the editing process is finished, A&A typically can design text pages and cover and process your changes in about four weeks to six weeks. Then, you will need to allow about six weeks for the printer.
When the book is completed, you are ready to find readers. A&A will distribute review copies to editors and prepare press releases or press kits for appropriate media. We will contact schedulers to arrange for you to be interviewed, make public appearances, and attend book signings, and we will coordinate publicity for your events.
A&A can develop target marketing directed toward buyers interested in your subject, such as direct mail postcards, advertisements in specialty publications, and one-sheets for buyers at bookstores.
If you want a website to promote your book, we can help you with that, too.
